“Non prendere in parola” significa “don’t take one’s word for it.”
Si usa quando volete esprimere qualcosa che non è affidabile o qualcosa che non è certo.
Ecco gli esempi:
Non prendermi in parola. - Don’t take my word for it. Don’t quote me on it.
Non prendermi in parola, ma ho sentito dire che Maria è incinta! - Don’t take my word for it, but I heard that Maria is pregnant!
Luca ti ha detto quello? Beh, non prenderlo in parola. - Luca told you that? Beh, don’t take his word for it.
L’ho cercato su Google. Ho sbagliato. L’anno fu 1949. Ti ho detto di non prendermi in parola. - I found it on Google. I was wrong. The year was 1949. I told you not to quote me on it.
