“Rachele ha appena fissato la data per il matrimonio, è in giugno a Sicilia. - Rachel just set a date for her wedding, it’s in June in Sicily.

Wow, Sicilia, che bello! - Wow, Sicily, how beautiful!

Guarda, Rachele mi ha appena scritto. - Look, Rachel just wrote me. 

Ahah, le fischiano le orecchie! - Haha, her ears are burning!”

The last line of this dialogue contains a modo di dire that I love and use all of the time in English.

Sentirsi fischiare le orecchie - To feel one’s ears burn

Here are a few examples:

• Mi fischiano le orecchie. - My ears are burning.

• Ti devono fischiare le orecchie. - Your ears must have been burning.

• Gli fischiano le orecchie. - His ears are burning.
