Per Rachel’s suggestion, I watched Generazione 56k on Netflix and LOVED it. It follows the love life of Daniel between his childhood in the 90s and present day with online dating. It’s filmed between the island of Procida and Napoli, and the scenery alone gave me major Italy withdrawals.
In one of the scenes, Daniel says, “Che parolone!”
(If you’re wondering, nope, I can never just watch a show in Italian. I’m constantly stopping and taking notes of the cool things that I hear so I can share it with all of you.)
So, anyway, he says, ‘che parolone’ which can be translated as, ‘that’s a strong word to use.’
Vi faccio degli esempi:
“Fidanzato” è un parolone… meglio dire “amico.” - Boyfriend is a strong word to use… “friend” is more suitable.
“Esperto” forse è un parolone, riesco a fare chiacchierate e basta. - Expert might be a strong word, I can make conversation and that’s it.
