[Native Dialogue] Viaggio Cancellato, Pt. 1
Irene Malentacchi, the editor of the site, wrote this native dialogue for all of us about a man who is informing a family member that he will have to cancel his upcoming family trip to Italy. There is some casual language that she included that I really, really love. Spy them on lines 3, 6, 7, and 11.
The English translation is included below, but the first portion is entirely in Italian so you can challenge yourself to see how much you understand.

Franco: Pronto Maria, sono Franco. Come stai?
Maria: Ciao Franco, tutto bene. Te? Tutto a posto?!
Franco: Guarda, lascia perdere. Non ho buone notizie. Non possiamo venire in Italia.
Maria: Stai scherzando? Che è successo?
Franco: Ti ricordi ti avevo detto che forse sarei dovuto rimanere a Londra per motivi di lavoro? Ecco, hanno deciso di lanciare il nuovo progetto aziendale proprio nella settimana in cui dovevamo venire in Italia.
Maria: Che sfiga! Questa proprio non ci voleva.
Franco: Eh, a chi lo dici. Avevamo così tanta voglia di vedervi e passare un po’ di tempo insieme.
Maria: Mamma sarà dispiaciuta che non ci potete essere per il suo compleanno.
Franco: Eh lo so, sono così infastidito! Questo progetto è stato rimandato per mesi, non potevano aspettare un altro paio di settimane per portarlo a termine?
Maria: Di fare una settimana di smart working non se ne parla proprio?
Franco: Mammeglio, devo essere in ufficio tutti i giorni. E secondo me dovrò fare anche degli straordinari.
Maria: Lucie e i bambini come l’hanno presa?
Franco: Mica tanto bene. Erano così delusi che si sono messi a piangere. Immaginati come mi sono sentito.
Maria: Ma non potrebbero scendere almeno loro?
Franco: Gliel’ho detto a Lucie ma le dispiace lasciarmi qui da solo in un momento così importante per l’azienda. Ha detto che avrò bisogno di supporto morale, haha.

Franco: Pronto Maria, sono Franco. Come stai? - Hello Maria, it’s Franco. How are you?
Maria: Ciao Franco, tutto bene. Te? Tutto a posto?! - Hi Franco, all good. You? Is everything alright?!
Franco: Guarda, lascia perdere. Non ho buone notizie. Non possiamo venire in Italia. - Look, I hate to tell you this. I don’t have good news. We can’t come to Italy.
Maria: Stai scherzando? Che è successo? - Are you joking? What happened?
Franco: Ti ricordi ti avevo detto che forse sarei dovuto rimanere a Londra per motivi di lavoro? Ecco, hanno deciso di lanciare il nuovo progetto aziendale proprio nella settimana in cui dovevamo venire in Italia. - Do you remember I told you that I might have to stay in London due to work? Well, they decided to launch the new company project exactly the week when we were supposed to come to Italy.
Maria: Che sfiga! Questa proprio non ci voleva. - What bad luck! We really didn't need this.
Franco: Eh, a chi lo dici. Avevamo così tanta voglia di vedervi e passare un po’ di tempo insieme. - Tell me about it. We were so looking forward to seeing you all and spending some time together.
Maria: Mamma sarà dispiaciuta che non ci potete essere per il suo compleanno. - Mom is going to be so disappointed that you can’t be here for her birthday.
Franco: Eh lo so, sono così infastidito! Questo progetto è stato rimandato per mesi, non potevano aspettare un altro paio di settimane per portarlo a termine? - Eh, I know, I am so annoyed! This project has been delayed for months. Couldn’t they wait for another couple of weeks to finish it?
Maria: Di fare una settimana di smart working non se ne parla proprio? - How about working remotely? That’s not a thing, is it?
Franco: Mammeglio, devo essere in ufficio tutti i giorni. E secondo me dovrò fare anche degli straordinari. – No way, I have to be in the office every day. And I think I’ll need to do some extra hours too.
Maria: Lucie e i bambini come l’hanno presa? - How did Lucie and the kids take it?
Franco: Mica tanto bene. Erano così delusi che si sono messi a piangere. Immaginati come mi sono sentito. - Not really well. They were so disappointed that they started crying. Imagine how I felt.
Maria: Ma non potrebbero scendere almeno loro? - Couldn’t they come at least?
Franco: Gliel’ho detto a Lucie ma le dispiace lasciarmi qui da solo in un momento così importante per l’azienda. Ha detto che avrò bisogno di supporto morale, haha. - I told Louise but she feels sorry to leave me here on my own in such an important time for the company. She told me that I’ll need moral support, haha.
