Cadere a pennello

One of my favorite moments in an Italian lesson is when I get to show off a word or an expression I learned with the teacher.

So, maybe I just learned the verb “dilettarsi - to dabble” and I say “mi diletto nelle lingue straniere. - I dabble in foreign languages.”

That happened in a recent lesson, and my teacher said, “Cade a pennello” or “That was used perfectly in the situation.”

The full phrase is: Cadere a pennello
